I bought some M. Lesher medium soft reeds for my son today, the Emeralds that they had were definately picked over. There was a big difference in his playing ability. We heard more notes, not as much fingering with just air coming out.
Now what troubles me, they gave him 7 pieces of music to perform with the band. He's been playing for 3 weeks and they want him to be able to play to perform! He barely has all the fingerings down, much less anything else. I told him not to sweat it, if he doesn't know the piece, fake it.
Even though his band camp ends next week, I plan on continuing with lessons and daily practice. I know he'll eventually get it together, it will just take time.
