try this
first, sight directly at the fold line, and imagine that line as clock hands indicating 3:45 or 9:15 ... for either time, clock face numeral 3 is always on the "right" and numeral 9 is always on the "left"

next, align your mandrel and reed tube so one narrow side faces you, and the blades of cane are in top and bottom positions
the fold is now pointed towards your right hand, with far-side fold corner as 3 and the near-side fold corner as 9

the top blade is 12 o'clock
the sides of the reed on the farside away from you is 3 o'clock (''right")
the bottom blade is 6 o'clock
the sides of the reed nearside to you is 9 o'clock (''left")
... wrapping over the TOP blade first is 12-3-6-9-12 = clockwise

but with the above positions still the same
if we wrap downwards, and under the BOTTOM blade first, then up behind the farside and back over the top, that's 9-6-3-12-9 = counterclockwise

... OK?
