That's very odd. I've never had that problem. A couple thoughts...

Are you meticulous about your selectino of tube cane? Only use the straightest pieces? Sometimes we pick straight pieces, but when we put it in the gouger bed, it doesn't sit flat, or curves up on one end. This not only produces an uneven gouge, but also when you go to fold it over, you end up folding it with the grains going diagonal rather than straight up and down. Do you fold based upon the grains or upon the sides of the piece?

What shape are you using? Although I can't imagine a shape making this happen, I'm curious as to if you're using a standard shaper tip.

When you tie, do you instantly scrape the tip down, and clip the tip and slip the blades? This allows the blades to dry in the correct position.

Finally, how are your tubes? Are they standard? I believe you use the Opus1 gouger, same as me, and Mr. Driscoll suggests CA MCW tubes. Are you tying tightly? using beeswax?
