Interesting -- I would use the opposite description, meaning the fold on the side away from me i would use as 9 and the one closest to my body would be three -- top blade as 12 and bottom as 9. This is the way I was taught --Hence why i said 'counterclockwise'. Interesting how one way is essentially the as another yet with different reference points.

In your description I wrap clockwise (over the reed, away side, bottom blad, near side).

thanks for taking the time and care to help me find a solution to this problem. Even my oboe colleagues in the orchestra are puzzled by this.
