 Reed Slipping wrong way problem

Hi everyone,
I'm an experienced reed maker and know all (well, most) 0f the ins and outs of reed making. Lately I have been having an increasingly common problem and I have no idea what is causing it.

I am meticulous about making sure my reeds slip the right way. By this, I mean that when I wrap my reeds, I purposely slip the reeds every so slightly while wrapping, so that I can be sure the reed is slipping the correctly way (back blade slightly to the left overlapping front blade).

As meticulous as I am, for some reason, more reeds then not are slipped the wrong way when I clip the tip during rough scraping. I cannot figure for the life of me what the problem is -- I am using a new shaper tip in the past 2 months or so, but am wrapping like I have always done so. I have NEVER had problems like this until now. What could be causing this? I have looked at every aspect from gouging to shaping as a cause and cannot find the reason. I have even asked a colleague (and former teacher) if he has any thoughts....he suggested wrapping closer to the end of the tube to prevent any slipping after I have set the overlap. NO success -- still, even though I am setting the overlap the correct way, when I clip the tip, the overlap goes the wrong way!

I am soooooooo frustrated! help!

Shawn
