Well, I do think that you have to blow harder on the oboe; the reed space is smaller as is the bore, you have to have fast air as opposed to just a lot of air to keep the oboe tone right. I think it's actually a good idea to play either a double reed, or single w/mouthpiece, not both, but, for someone who can control their embouchure not ruining either, that might not be the case. But yeah, you do have to blow harder on the oboe than on clarinet or flute. I hope that helped. : )
