... yes, that's what i've found all year, playing tight equals playing too sharp, i started out that way because all the store-bought reeds i was getting were blowing flat so i really clamped down on them, only to rediscover reeds blow sharper with age after blowing in ...
It's been 9 months since then, increased lip muscle strength & flexibility has made it easier for me to move lips around the reed, instead of just clamping down hard to control it, and so i'm blowing relaxed more often now and can tune up or down better, if only i was certain which way to go, hard to tell if i'm sharp or flat sometimes without Borg Kube (Korg C30) to workout for intonation practice (y'know, resistance is futile, the green light means yes, you are complying, the red light means you must be assimilated!)
There seems to a certain amount of warmup time when i feel not there yet, then seem to slip into comfort zone and can play for quite awhile. It's taking me about 30-40 minutes to feel really warmed up at the moment. I think it's an individual growth & development thing. But it's not stable yet, i'm giving embouchure another year's work-out on supplemental straw exercises.
How long do any of you find you need to warmup to get into your prime playing zone?
