I would just like to add one thing....
Pitch is not the same as intonation! The tuner is a good means for establishing a good pitch center i.e. understanding where the notes lie in relation to A440.
However....intonation is almost a seperate entity. It is what we hear, not what we see on a digital tuner. It's not even the oboe playing an A against a tuning fork....it's about the note *resonating* AND being in tune.
Example: pull the cork staple out so that the oboe is 20 cents flat, and then compensate with the embouchure to bring it up to pitch. Yes, it's "in tune" but it definitely won't *sound* in tune. Espeeeecially when playing with other instruments.
Resonating at correct pitch - that's intonation
