You have excellent advice on what to do to control pitch and bring notes in tune. Here are two important following steps, which I learned from Gonzalo Ruiz:
STEP 1
Practice intervals, from a note you play in tune (#1) to one of the problem notes (#2).
Play #2, bring it in tune and get a clear mental image of the pitch, and, secondarily, what you do to play it.
Then play #1, bring up the image of #2 and move to it.
Don't make the physical changes consciously. Let the mental image of the correct pitch bring everything else along with it.
This packs everything you do into a single image and action.
STEP 2
On a descending interval, picture holding your hand beneath #2 to support it as you move down.
On an ascending interval, picture holding your hand above #2 to lift it as you move up.
