Yes, I remember now.... and we had discussions about weather, opening and the dryness in Israel.

I got my Cane Guide from Kreedo, I think Marigaux sells it and I know Rigoutat sells it. It was 38 Euros with a discount because I bought a couple of hundred Euros worth of stuff and it was on sale to begin with. Well worth the full price anyway.

As for "perfect fit", it doesn't really matter. His old ones were taylor made to individual shapers. By making it smaller, he benefits from geometric principles rather than exact measurements. You push it in regardless of the shape (and I have tried 6) in order for it to "pre-close" and curve the cane for the staple.

The pictures are actually Fabrice Rousson's own (used with his kind permission). I did the little thing about pre-binding. Whether you use a piece of drinking straw or shrink-wrap or thread, it's still pre-binding: I'm talking about the technique. I find the cheap-thread way extra easy, though straws and cellophane might hold the position more securely.

The microscopic offset you mention might be simply inevitable just because we are talking about hand-crafted grass! As long as there's no direct pressure from the edges of one blade on the flat of the other, then its good. It's that pressure that, in my reckoning, dampens vibration...... but, I've had a few remarkable reeds that slipped.....
