My experience with the term "Blown out" refers to a lack of focus in the sound....This is usually accompanied by low blowing resistance. I'm not sure why putting on a harder reed doesn't fix this. I have a Laubin from around 1985. Evidently Covey did some work on the upper bore. It certainly plays freer than some other Laubins I've played. I'm not sure it's good or bad. John
