By holding arms up I mean making space between arms and ribcage. I'm not talking huge - and anyway one obviously doesn't want the arms flush against one's body ( that would be the ultimately relaxed position) they need to be held at a correct angle so as to allow expansion under the arms (for better resonant sound), and to allow the fingers to touch the oboe at the right angle- this was what I was trying to help Dutchy achieve.
