Did you soak reed about 15 min first--water almost up to binding?
Stop at any music store and look at the"Art of Oboe Playing" by Robert Sprenkle and David Ledet..see pages 81 on and especially figures 52a.b.c.d (found on pages 84,85.
While nice to buy the book, just seeing the scraping figures will help.
Step one:
After you make marks on both sides of cane 4mm from tip
Step 2:Next you scrape a half-moon shape on both sides of bark
Step 3:finally you get to working on the tip.
Essentially if you work only on the tip first, the reed may/will crack.
