Hello! My daughter reads the clarinet board and told me about this oboe board. I'm glad to see it here! I started playing the oboe about 8 months ago and now I want to learn to make my own reeds.
I went to a double-reed camp a few weeks ago and was taught how to do it, however, I ended up cracking all eight of the reeds I made. I did get good at tying them though.
Does anybody have any idea why I split every reed I was working on? The instructor watched me and couldn't see anything I was doing wrong.... perhaps too much pressure on the cane..... The split happened in the same place on all 8 reeds, and when I was thinning the tip.
Anyway, I have just ordered a Landwell double hollow knife, 10 pieces of cane and thread. I'm determined to make reeds without cracking them.
Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated!
