Most stock bocals are pretty crappy, however sometimes there is a good match. What I'd suggest doing (if you're going through with this whole deal) is to ask to try out some bocals from various places, and then try to see which one makes a good match with the exact english horn you will be playing. Bocal companies will that you pay the shipping, and all they ask is a credit card number, and they can send you some of their bocals to try. Since you're a beginner, however, I would also recommend that you have your teacher play the instruments with the bocals just to check for anything you might be unaware of.
