As principal, I once tuned a community orchestra during practice, using an old-fashioned tuning fork. That conductor was impressed.
Another time, I used not only a Korg tuner but the clip-on cable to the bell of the oboe, and was told by both the new conductor and the concertmistress that I was flat; they insisted I change batteries, and I did, and other tuners in the group all agreed with mine. This conductor tended to like a sharp orchestra, so I offered to tune at A-442: he declined, and brought in his dinosaur large tuner as a 'standard'.
The irony is that I usually play a little high...
