Your previous point was clear to me. I was just opening a little can o'worms re: playing with others all doing various things with pitch.
John Mack stated he was lucky to play with an orchestra that played so well in tune, so he had no tuning problems. But, he also said when he traveled and played with other groups he had plenty of problems. Borrowing a very little from that, when I do play with mostly equal tempered instruments, and they tune that way, so beats are all over the place except octaves, I find it easier to play comfortably and stay in tune (for the most part).
All in all, flexibility within norms is what I expect, just deal with folks going 20 - 50 cents off-key. And funny, there is so much discussion around 440 Vs 442 or 445...
How about A = 490!?
I like your basic points about fundament freq for oboe. That being A = 220 per Covey, I always wondered why most normal oboes don't have them. Low As, that is...
