Well, I am an engineer..... software engineering might sound like an oxymoron, but we do apply the methodology for problem solving!
Thing is, I have real LOTS of hog-wash that obviously comes from the very natural frustration of not knowing what to do with reeds that just won't....
Engineering does not guarantee a solution, but with the outlook of finding out what is wrong, what is the definition of right, and the determination to find the soloution while never letting pre-conceptions get in the way, then the eventual solution must occur.
P.S.: I think everyone should play the recorder! I took an Irish tin-whistle with me on my Combat Leadership Course (similar to Seargent's training in the States) and it was a real morale booster! We'd let off steam by parading with mops while I played marches!
