OK -- somebody (oboemoboe) on another thread referred to need to prepare reeds differently in the winter time, and called it "winter reeds".
I know I am just having fits with my reeds right now (not to mention with my instrument). It's just about as bad as what happened last summer, when I took my paraphernalia from the moderate and humid Midwest of the U. S. to the arid and hot U.S. Southwest. The instrument's adjustment changed from moment to moment -- demonstrable especially in the position of the critical F res screw -- and the reeds had to be scraped down, and scraped down again, and scraped down again to ensure responsiveness.
So, what is the answer to keeping reeds responsive and the low notes sounding, during this season of extreme cold, extreme dryness, and ubiquitous central heating many of us are having? Do I have to plan on adjusting (both reeds and instrument) every time I play?
