Nothing drastic really has to be done. But here's a checklist
1. Make sure your knives are sharp, and that you aren't pressing down when you scrape. If you press even a little, you will have to rescrape the reed the next time you pick it up. If you don't press, it should stay mostly the same.
2. Look at the winter season as a hidden blessing. Though the climate indoors is dry, it's always dry, and about 18-23 degrees celcius.
3. Make the reeds according to feel and play, rather than trying to analyze the crow. During the bitter cold snaps here in Montreal, my reeds sometimes don't crow normally, because I adjust them so that they play as usual. I sometimes get reeds that crow a rattly "B" yet play with good dynamics, and in tune. A lot of the time this means a slightly different reed balance - like a slightly thicker tip, but more cane taken out elsewhere.
