I now slide.

Reason 1: When I used to roll, (or rock) I sometimes would get a horrid sound between a slur from the high D to high C. It was the the nano-second of the finger being closed on the HH key before engaging the side octave which was a product of rolling (for me).

Reason 2: Mr. Mack talked about the easier connection using the parallel motion of the thumb sliding down off the 1st octave key and the index finger sliding open of the half hole simultaneously. I tried it and realized it worked better for my fingers. So I slide.
