I like to leave my half hole, completely open!

The rocking movement is not a natural one, despite its necessity to facilitate some finger combinations. But on many occasions it is also not necessary to slide/rock, just simply levitate left index finger. On my oboe Eb does not respond well WITHOUT half hole closed, but D and especially C# responds better with half hole completely opened.

At least that's what's true on my oboe, i still 'rock' a lot though!
