i agree with what most everyone else has said. get a harder reed (not so hard it's painful to play) and make sure you don't bite (that would counteract the dark sound and would be painful, too) once you do that a lot, you will be able to produce that tone on any reed (like the seniors at your school). also, try opening the back of your throat as much as you can when you play (throat-not lips. it has nothing to do with your mouth) so the air and sound can resonate in there and sound fuller and darker
