I agree with thezenclarinetist. To a physical limit your nasal/throat/mouth cavity is set and cannot be changed. Playing on different parts of the reed will change the color of the sound. Playing on the german cut reed ( basically only the tip is scraped) will give a darker sound but control can be a problem. I presume you tried different strengths in reeds and still get the same sound???
If you pinch the reed when playing you do get a thin sound. To get away from sounding like a duck you have to have some controlled vibrato. Bagpipes play without vibrato but it's not the sound you should be after.
Without help from a teacher the only thing you can do is play along with a friend that has a good sound. First they play, then you;and both of you play into a tape machine. You really don't hear your own sound as it really is. You hear your sound filtered through your jaw bone rather than as people hear you in the first row.
