Very good advice up there.

From what I hear, the Fox student lines might be the ones to look for, especially considering the price issues. Just be sure not to get a stripped-down model -- be sure to get the left F, low Bb, and if possible articulated C-C#, plus as many trills as possible.

I had a Yamaha 411 (predecessor to the 441), and felt it was a very heavy-sounding oboe. Kind of a thick tone. Perhaps they have made some refinements on this newer model. I know they have added keywork, which is always welcome.

Rigoutat has a student line, too (Delphine and RIEC), which Nora Post carries. But again, they are proportionately more $$ than the Fox.
