Nobody can know everything about everything
... i agree generally that band director needs a reality check, but i do prefer to assume it's blind ignorance that's the issue here, not specifically ego or willful stupidity, and that ignorance needs to be accurately informed of oboe facts of life, not emotionally barraged, accused and blamed for their ignorance. Do be kind and respectful to this director who's probably freaked out by other concerns just now, like Wednesday's concert!
Suggest floboe's band director is given some informative printouts with direct reference to this board and, after the concert on Wednesday, add a list of many other online resources about oboe & bassoon, so he/she can investigate the many discussion posts and difficulties beginners have with these instruments, and that way get a much better grip on the realities of playing double reeds. This will definitely fill the vacancy in that person's head who may then realise that an apology in good faith would be timely and appropriate to eager and willing but vulnerable junior flute student.
On the other hand, no woodwind section is complete without oboes, plural, so hopefully this (over?) enthusiastic but presently clueless director is probably willing to self-study in order to learn what they really need to know to encourage and support oboe / bassoon students in this particular band, so let us all *** HURRAH *** as our encouragement for them to go ahead and do that :-)
