omigawd! ... concert, this Wednesday ... on oboe, and you've just started?!!
... what didn't anybody tell you ?!
(more importantly, why didn't they know enough about oboe to be able to tell you, you'd better check out somebody's oboe credentials ...!)
... may you mercifully break your last reed on Wednesday fifteen minutes before concert!
Strongly recommend you make this particular Wednesday night concert your most beautiful FLUTE-clarinet duet ever, your best farewell flute performance. You've worked hard for five years on flute, you deserve to be noticed and credited for that!
... and then, give yourself at least a school year to build up your oboe embouchure before attempting any exposed playing on oboe. Won't be comfortable playing for full 30 minutes until maybe 3 months and even then your tone won't be wonderful (but certainly a lot better than Wednesday but it's got no chance at all of being ready by then ...)
Starting NOW, just tell everybody with *** complete happy confidence and knowledgeable re-assurance *** that oboe playing embouchure simply can't be built up in a week, it takes much longer than that, and so it won't be ready in time for this particular concert, and you're looking forward to your FLUTE duet on Wednesday :-)
Far better to take this kind of face-saving attitude right now, than get that empty sick feeling in the pit of your belly before even going onstage and then really screwing up and being totally unable to perform on oboe ... which has a reputation for nasty surprises ... with 5 years flute experience already how terrible would you feel afterwards?
Be sensible, choose to feel good after your FLUTE concert
