I think what freaks me out the most is knowing that somewhere there's a high school band director who apparently seriously believes that you can "just pick up" enough oboe in only a week to attempt the Schubert oboe solo. And who would have the chutzpah to inflict something like this on an audience, in presumably the big Fall Concert. I mean, that's just bizarre. How can he not know how hard the oboe is to play? That's what stumps me.
Plus, he's got an innocent high school kid involved in his little fantasy, and SHE'S the one who's going to have to take the heat when it all falls apart on Wednesday night. SHE'S the one who people are going to go home talking about, "OMG, can you believe they had their oboist PLAY that, she sucked so bad, maybe they ought to encourage her to switch to another instrument..."
So the situation just punches all my "Mom" hot buttons.
