I do know about the problems associated with healing tendonitis, which I had in my foot a year ago and I still struggle with. It is more a cramping sensation. I can play for hours when I am in shape without any problems - usually my embouchure gives in well before my hands do! I purchased a stress ball today (I couldn't find my old one - I think it became a dog toy) - it must be good, it has a treble clef on it!
I think if I develop a 'warm-up' routine (as in, a muscular warm-up rather than just an air/embouchure warm-up), it will help. My workplace has introduced a professional learning course with a sports physio, dealing with the physical stresses of our job - lifting instruments and music, standing teaching for long periods with incorrect posture, warming up, keeping limber, etc. We will be dealing with specific instrument enquiries next meet, so I will put this forward.
I will trial a few exercises and if they seem to be successful, I will post them here.
