That's a good way to reconcile Sawicki with the others...in theory, Sawicki makes sense, the pads should all cover in a balanced fashion, but your point is that we sense more drag on the larger pads when that is the case...it's also a little easier to feel "more" drag than "equal" drag. Regarding your unquenchable "obsession", wasn't it Allan Vogel who called his great CD "Oboe Obsession"? I think it's the endorphins that playing the oboe for a long session releases...cheap and legal!!

I agree, I also really liked the way my oboe adjusted after paying close attention and following McCall's instructions...his tip on the E key>F vent>F resonance, the latter just slightly dragging really helped me get that tricky balance right. But each one of the guides has handy little tips like that. I could be wrong, but sitting here I think Sawicki is the only one that tells you to play a low D and reach for the F res with the RH pinky and tap it to see if needs to close a tiny bit more as you fine adjust that screw. (ed. correction thanks to Craig below - credit McFarland, not Sawicki)
