It has transpired that my local band instrument go-to guy, contrary to my assumption, does not really know what he's doing when it comes to oboe adjustment. I took mine in for two clicking keys, and while he fixed the clicking keys, when it came back the D1 was curiously muffled and a bit sharp, and the C1 wouldn't play at all.
So I hopped in the car, drove back down there (it's about 6 blocks from my house), and played it for him while he went "Hmm" and reached over and twiddled keys. Then he took it in the back for a minute, brought it back out, and it was fixed.
Then he said, a bit sheepishly, "Yanno, there's a thing you can get online, 'Oboe Adjustment', it's a poster, you can buy it..." I smiled and nodded and thanked him for the information, but I was thinking, "Um? My oboe repair guy is telling ME to figure out how to do it myself?"
So anyway, I already have the Carl Sawicki book, but I see that there are a couple of other oboe adjustment guide books out there. Do I need them? Are they better, or easier to understand, or have better pictures, or something? I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to.
