Whichever guide you choose, here is some advice Pat McFarland gave at a Mack camp after doing an adjustment seminar.
'Go home and every day for 10 days, back off the adjustments top to bottom and redo them.' And do the adjustments from top to bottom, too.
He said that would really cement the knowledge.
I did that, and he was correct. Except for mechanical repairs a couple times, I have been doing this all myself since 1981.
And what a blessing it is.
One thing he did not cover I find useful, is never glue down a screw to lock it. Instead, remove it, insert some reed thread (a few small fibers or more as needed) and replace the screw.
You may need to replace adjustment cork pieces periodically, or use teflon bumpers if you can find them.
Short of entire pad replacement, this will serve the majority of your needs, I'd guess.
