Screw edges have surfaces, so do the plates they hit against. Sometimes 1/8 of a turn is too much but ANOTHER 1/8 is still too little..... geometry people!
I agree with Craig. I say the best thing is to learn how the instrument works through observation and experimentation. It all makes sense, if you spend the time.
There are major things that are too difficult to do, sometimes, changing a pad is one of them, sometimes not.
So find a really reputable repairman and send it by insured mail for those repairs.
Otherwise, I do everything myself...... don't attempt a lot of the fixes I ask about on this BBoard.... I'm asking the questions because they are really difficult things!
