I am pleased and proud to report that I spent the afternoon with Sawicki, twiddling screws back and forth, and now have a 100% self-adjusted oboe.
Along the way I was nonplussed to find that evidently I've been playing C#3 wrong all this time. After I got it all (supposedly) adjusted, suddenly the C#3 was flat and squeaky. Hmm. I went back and did it all over again, start to finish. Still flat and squeaky. So ("bwah?") I got out the official Fox fingering guide that came with the oboe, just to make sure I'm not having a senior moment here and am playing the wrong fingering or something--and discover that yeah, I HAVE been playing the wrong fingering all this time, but it sounded okay because my oboe has been out of adjustment all this time.
So go figure.
ETA: Also my entire lower register is suddenly much crisper and more resonant. Woot.
I should have done this AGES ago.
