Yeah, I probably have 30 reeds at the moment in my reed box, and they're all different. Even different reeds from the same maker, in the same batch, are different. I always thought it just went with the territory--a reed is made from a grass stem (so to speak), so like with anything else made out of natural materials, like a horsehair bow, you have to accept that it's going to be variable. You aren't going to have the same factory-perfect "This one is exactly like all the other ones" standards with something made out of grass that you can get with metal, that can be stamped out of a sheet to 1/1000 of an inch tolerances.
We can recommend some very reliable reedmakers, if you're interested.
