Backup plans for backup oboe in the background of a peaceful mind?

Highly sentimental object of this age + previous age before you got it = ?
And it's still a good horn even now?

You never play it now? Well, that seems like a missed opportunity to play music that really means something

You could decide you will play it from time to time, such as for family anniversaries and other special musical occasions, play only Prestini to your parents with their own favorite melodies if they're still with you, or if not, honor their memories by playing Prestini at meaningful moments during every year, or play it to honor oboists who matter to you -- an instrument played like that cannot ever equal trade-off $

So why not over-extend yourself and gamble on best feelings by keeping it in tip-top shape, treasuring, cherishing and occasionally playing Prestini, with the long-term view of passing it on to someone special-to-you?

Someday a grand-child or great-cousin may need, and deserve, an honorable and well-looked after old oboe. If Plan A doesn't work out, Plan B, decide who or what would benefit most from Prestini and leave instructions for your own executor

Since this oboe's getting on in years and could eventually survive long enough to become an antique, it would be more meaningful for whoever eventually gets it if you've made a written Provenance for it, including some of your own highlights in its history -- hopefully that somebody will be in your family tree, but if not, written history will be more likely to make this oboe special to somebody else because they will feel more akin to you
