I would definitely not get a beginner a Loree. The qualities that they possess are just not needed at this stage of the game. In any case: Buffet, Yamaha, Howarth, Rigoutat, and various others have good intermediate student models. Fox is an excellent student model, I believe they make a "Renard" which is their student model. I would recommend not going any less than an intermediate model. Anything less, and there will be just too much frustration.
My advice is to find an oboist close to where you live. If not, what you can do is at least find a few names, and call them on the phone to get info that way. Band directors, unfortunately, have no clue when it comes to oboes, unless they are an oboist themselves.
