Actually, Floboe hasn't told us what kind of school she attends -- just that it is a high school.
Believe it or not, there are some private schools (and parochial schools, more than likely) whose staff doesn't necessarily have to have teaching degrees -- just "expertise" in their subject.
So you get situations like the one in the (generally excellent) private school my son attended, where a vocal performance major was hired to direct the choral program, and an accomplished trumpeter was hired to direct the band.
These folks were outstanding and inspiring musicians and performers, but neither of them had training in music pedagogy. Yikes!
And then there's the ones that do . . .
