 Re: American scrape adjustments

I do not usually play W scrape reeds, thus the trouble..T_T...

I do not wish to return them as they are playable and have a dark sound but at the current moment they just seem to be rather heavy because from what i can observe (and through reading everyone's advise) is that the bottom part of the reed starting from the heart and downwards is less defined, and i am not sure how much i should take off and whether i should create a clear defined area, contrasting the rail on the side, the bottom bark and windows, and the spine with the windows. Any advise?

Ke Xun in my opinion makes excellent reeds, at least with the U scrapes.
From what i know they are not particularly famous for their American scrape reeds, and apparently, they have produced an improved model of their W scrape reeds now available for sale. His reeds are played by professional oboists in major orchestras around the world. As with every reed maker, which i can imagine, sometimes you get a less good batch, and it can be really frustrating. Good cane must be scarce. I rely mostly on my own reeds, but when it comes to preparing for a big performance and i am not confident about my own reeds, i go to him.

Howard
