"On you-tube somewhere you can find Heinz Holliger playing the Mozart Oboe concerto, 1st movt. Watch how he fingers that top D in the second or third bar - he uses the trill key!"
Well, if it's good enough for Heinz Holliger! I've been using the D trill for some isolated Ds (both middle and top) rather than the full fingering to get around certain phrases easier, and glad to see that's what he does - it's nice to be in good company. But he also has a LH C# key which makes life loads easier too.
It's probably because I do certain shortcuts on sax and clarinet (like playing Ds with side keys instead of the full fingerings) that I do them on oboe and cor as well.
