I have a Fox 333, which has the F resonance key, and tone of the forked F is just *about* the same as the regular or Left-hand F. If you play them slowly one after the other, and listen very carefully, you can tell the difference, but not in ordinary playing.
When I first got the instrument, I was, like, "Oh, boy! Now I've got a Left-hand F just like the professionals!" and I went to work relearning all my Fork F fingerings with Left-Hand F. But, you know, after a while, I began to realize that in many situations, for the amateur level that I'm playing at anyway, Fork F just makes more sense and is easier.
Also, the Fox fingering chart that came with the oboe didn't make any special mention of using its Left-Hand F instead of Fork F because it would sound "better" or anything: it lists Regular F, Fork F, and Left-Hand F, in that order. So to them, at least, the Left-Hand F is there as an alternative, to be used as necessary, not as an automatic total substitute for Fork F.
