Bobo makes a good point. On many instruments the forked F is very clear and in tune; on others it has a color which is cloudier or may be less in tune.
Having used an instrument without a side F for the first years of playing, I grew facile with forked F to E transitions, and that has served me well over decades of professional playing. It did take some deliberate practice to learn to utilize the left hand F when I moved to a professional instrument; but I always appreciate that I can move easily through a forked F whenever I choose because of my earlier patterning.
