We are not especially familiar with John Mack over here in Europe. I did access some of his recordings on Amazon.com. His playing is very polished with good intonation. However, his playing seems very reserved to me. I would like more colour and intensity from him. It seems a bit conservative in approach.
For a contrast try an Amazon.com search for names such as Stefan Schilli; Francois Leleux; Albrecht Mayer; Thomas Indermuhle; Maurice Bourge; Yeon-Hee Kwak, and, of course, the king of them all - Heinz Holliger etc., and listen in to see if you like them.
