I share your opinion that right now Alex Klein is the best out there! His sound and style are absolutely untouchable to other players. However, you should hear Woodhams' recording of the Strauss concerto...amazing! But then again, Alex Klein's is too...it all comes down to personal preference. Tabuteau died in the late 1960s I believe...I could be wrong about that but he's definitely deceased now. He is probably the biggest legend in the oboe world. And Holliger is not dead, he is getting older but he's still playing and recording plenty. I don't know how old he is.
