<<Do I need to get private lessons >>
It depends on what you want to do with your playing. If you envision yourself continuing at least through high school, and possibly into adulthood, then lessons now might be a good investment.
The components of sound that you mention in your original post -- tone, pitch, and vibrato -- all seem to have something in common, and that is, they all relate to how you produce and use the air that you put into the instrument. Embouchure certainly factors in to these components, too.
Speaking as someone who has "been there, done that," if you do have the option of taking some private lessons, take them from an oboist (NOT from a generic "reed teacher" or "double-reed teacher).
What instruction have you had that was oboe-specific up to this point? Have you been pretty much on your own, or did someone teach you how to make a correct embouchure?
And don't let the bad jokes about the oboe get you down. For some reason, people like trashing oboes and oboists, but frankly, I don't think we deserve it!
