Listen, I started off in music, tried my hand at arts management, went into education (hated the politics) went on to security and finally found a place in computer technology.

DON'T GO NUTS WITH THESE QUESTIONS RIGHT NOW.
If you have a chance at something you love to do, try your best hand at it. You are allowed to change your mind in a few years: the big advantage of a College/University (you can touch other fields while in music).

Maybe you discover you're the best around, but you just decide you don't like it: move on to something else. Maybe you discover you're not so hot but love it anyway: plenty of alternate musical jobs out there. Maybe you discover you were right all along!

Don't worry about those things until you get there. Just do your best and enjoy the ride.
