that's a 5th off... you mean he took the read-out on the TUNER instead of using his ear? Oh dear.
A cheap and portable method is to get one of those plug-in things that connect to the tuner and clip to your oboe's bell.. don't ask me what they're called, I'm no techno-wizard. Seems to eliminate the overtones anyway.
Not very pretty, but I found it useful in cutting down on the amount of times other players would contest my "A".
