I own a Marigaux 901. Before the Mariguaux I played a LW series Loree and before that a Fossati Tiery, and before that a plastic Fox.

After I bought my Marigaux - my teacher bought one and another student bought one. The Marigaux sound is quite consistent across all three instruments; although each instrument does has its own particular charms.

The Marigaux I own has a wonderful soft, rich, silky and focused tone.

However, I cannot say that the scale was perfect.

The Mariguax I own is a few cents below 440 and the scale needed to be adjusted.

I raised the A and B. I lowered the Octave G and F# for consistency in pitch and timbre. I adjusted the height of the keys for the Octave C to lower the pitch. I had the double Octave Eb adjusted to speak clearer.

I also now use a 45mm staple and I use alternate fingerings above D. The fingerings by the way are easier with less keys - and very well in tune. The extreme upper register just sings beautifully. I have no trouble playing a G# and at times I can get the A.

The point here is this - the Marigaux sound is consistent - there is no edge to it - and the scale rolls from note to note; however, scales on Oboes are not perfect and need to be adjusted.

Mark - a very contented Marigaux 901 oboist.
