here's another 'etiquette' type of question
... don't know if other community volunteer groups experience this, but it was a shock to discover some woodwind and string section players were absent at our second concert today, several were sick, but a couple of others went away on holidays since last week's concert
-- these folks knew performance dates long ago in the fall, and i know holidays have to be planned well in advance nowadays, but really, this was a shock to have a deliberate no-show for a known performance date, even though it is volunteer, what's the point of rehearsing for weeks and then not being there?
in our group this particular part of the woodwind section usually has 4 players, and of the two who showed, one was also sick but came anyway, and had something of rough time of it due to sniffles and congestion, so in effect that left just one instead of four (two each on two parts)
... do other community volunteer groups run into this kind of absenteeism --
and how does anybody deal with it?
