... lucky indeed
here's one on me -- there's always a first time for anything under Murphy's Law, including normally careful & cautious yours truly
got a new swob yesterday -- didn't pre-wash sillk or hand-rub the hem first to break down the stiff fabric finish, serious abandonment of due precaution, tsk tsk
yup, you guessed it, swob got totally and hopelessly stuck for the very first time ever in my entire junior & senior oboe life -- the stitched flat hem was just too thickly bunched up ... really ought to have a rolled hem on oboe silks ...
oh no! don't have an official swob removing tool! concert's on Saturday, oh bother, do i hafta use my backup oboe? ... sat there in a disbelieving daze after evening practice, hungry, thirsty, weary ... trying to think up a safe undamaging solution to this sudden dire emergency ... mandrel as pusher? ... nope ... spring hook as puller? ... nope ... narrow tweezers couldn't get or hold a grip ... curved tweezers too big ...
spring hook helped shred the silk ... aha! good thing i have a pair of those stork embroidery scissors with very narrow blades to snip the wadded silk apart thread by thread until finally could pull it through about half an hour later :-)
High C for Cavalleria on a stuffed-silk oboe would have been ...
tonight we'll find out if any tiny bits of static-prone silk shreds have bunged up any holes ...
